Tourist attractions
- The Old Town: Founded in 1540, carryng out the main activities of the town.
- Cathedral: Regarded as one of the first seventeenth century religious monuments of the city.
- Santa Catalina Convent: One of the most important religious monuments. It remained closed until 1970.
- Colca Canyon: Considered one of the deepest in the world. It is characterized because that you can watch the condors fly.

Gastronomy of the zone
Rocoto Relleno:
Is one
of the most famous and traditional dishes in Arequipa it is made with chili
peppers, a local spacy vegetable fill with minced meat and stuffed. It is
normally an entrée it is sometimes confused with normal peppers but it is one
of the world’s spicier chillis.
Ocopa Arequipeña:
It is
also a very common entrée not only in Arequipa but also all over Peru It is a
sauce made with chilli pepers , walnuts, a Peruvian herb called
"Huacatay" wich gives the green colos to the dish, and fresh or white
cheese, sided with lettuce, boiled eggs and olives all of it serve over boiled
Peruvian potatoes.
Chupe de Camarones:
This is
a classic Peruvian Shrimp Chowder that is a meal in itself. When you're looking
for a cozy meal on a crisp night this is a great dish to make. It is made with
shrimp and many other ingredients which make this dish one of the most
incredible Peruvian substantial dishes. It is very common in Arequipa because
of the rivers that are in all over the city.
Cuy Chactado:
It is a
very traditional Peruvian dish, it is prepared in many regions of the country
this dish has many nutrients and calories, it is made with fried guinea pig
with a large quantity of oil, join with
boiled potatoes and a salad many people
on Arequipa have the tradition of putting a stone over the dish.
Typical Desserts
Queso Helado:
Elaborated with milk, egg, coconut, sugar and
decorated with cinnamon.
Buñuelos:
Elaborated with flour, egg , sugar, anis and fries
in abundant oil.
Fruits and Vegetables
In Arequipa, We can find many varieties of fruits as
higo, watermelon, guayaba, tumbo but the most typical is the papaya arequipeña.
Also we find vegetables as rocoto, onions, garlic, pumking.
In Arequipa is typical liquor called Anisado, they
drink it to digest food.
